The Power of Words

This week's assembly focused on the power of words, encouraging our pupils to reflect on how the things that they say in our school community can impact others-both  positively and negatively.

Creative Collages

Year 8 have been learning about the Italian Artist Guiseppe Arcimboldo who was born in 1526.  Arcimboldo is famous for making portraits out of fruit, vegetables, books and even fish. Pupils have successfully made imaginative collages from magazines and oil pastel studies. Look at this fabulous creation by George Mockridge!

Handwriting Practice!

To master the art of handwriting requires patience, concentration and fine motor skills therefore we are very proud of Connor for working so hard on this. Well done!

Marvellous Maths

I am always impressed by the determination of our pupils; the easy option is to opt out, to give up, to say it's too hard...However, this work exemplifies a relentless effort from JJ to show that you can succeed! Well done JJ.

Brilliant Blood

This term in science the ELC cohort in years 10+11 have been learning about the four components of blood.  They have learnt what each component is and what it looks like and what role each component plays in the transport of food and oxygen around our bodies, how it helps to fight infection and disease and how blood clots after a cut .  They have each produced a poster (in pairs) to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding. The photo I have attached is the brilliant work of Jayden Ward and Phelim Mottershead in Year 10, well done!

Remembering Roxy- ONE YEAR SINCE WE SAID GOODBYE

Message from Tracy Oldfield (Roxy's Mum)

I would like to thank Mrs Hudson, Mr Hadley and all other Castlehill staff for their
amazing support during the very difficult last 12 months. The school has stepped up above and beyond in supporting the memory of Roxy, with the wonderful memorial wellbeing garden and the Roxanne Oldfield annual award which was given out for the first time at the end of the last academic year.
I would also like to thank all of Roxy’s school friends who recently attended a balloon release in Alexandra Park in Edgeley. I was touched by their kind words and the memories they shared of Roxy.
As it would have been Roxy’s 18th birthday in October, Mrs Hudson has kindly agreed to hold a non-uniform day in Roxy’s memory, with all money raised going to Blackburn Cat Rescue, a charity close to both our hearts as we adopted several cats from them over the years.
I have also set up a just-giving page to raise money in Roxy’s memory and to
celebrate what would have been her 18 th birthday, with any money raised going to a couple of local animal charities. I am also planning to complete 2 challenges in Roxy’s memory, firstly swimming 18 lengths for 18 days and secondly walking/playing 18 holes of golf at Chorlton Golf club, which I have never managed to achieve before due to arthritis in my feet.
If anyone would like to donate via the just giving page, please see the link below. I
am intending to match all monies raised on this page as my gift to Roxy for her 18th heavenly birthday.

Thank you again to staff, pupils and parents for your on-going support during what continues to be a very difficult time for me and my family.

And Finally...

We were so blessed by Amelia's performance last week in assembly; her incredible talent shone through in every beautiful note that she sang. She has created her own lyrics and piano music to deliver this magnificent moment in time in our school.
