The Solihull online training courses has now been rebranded as "Togetherness", which aims to make parenting support more accessible and reduce stigma, helping improve emotional wellbeing across the UK.

Our free online learning. Big feelings, how the brain works, and relationship ideas for happier lives. Stockport Family gives families free access to Togetherness resources to support wellbeing. For parents, carers, grandparents, and young people.

Learn from NHS clinical psychologists, practitioners, and other parents. The pathways will help you and your family understand and manage emotions in everyday life.

Stockport's SEND, Neurodevelopmental & Emotional Wellbeing Offer

Riding the Rapids is a free course, delivered by Stockport Neurodevelopmental Team. It is designed for parents and carers of neurodivergent young people who have either a formal diagnosis of Autism or ADHD, are on the pathway for an assessment.

The course aims to help parents understand and support their child’s well-being, and reduce stress, distress-related behaviours, and other behaviours of concern.

Riding the Rapids Parent/Carer course - We recognise that some parents joining us will have their own neurodevelopmental needs and we provide the opportunity for you to let us know about any accessibility needs you have prior to the session.

To be eligible to request a place on this course parents/carers must:

  • Live in Stockport

  • Have a child of school age (Reception to Year 11) who you live with or have very frequent contact with and is experiencing distress-related behaviour or other behaviours of concern

  • Be able to commit to a 10-week course

 To request a place on this course please email the Neurodevelopmental Team with name of your child, their date of birth and the name of their school OR contact Julie Stonier - Family and Multi-Agency Link Officer at Castle Hill on 01612853925 who can put the referral in for you.

Riding the Rapids

 

 

Exploring Neurodiversity is a one-off session delivered by Stockport Neurodevelopmental Team. It is designed for parents/carers and family members of neurodivergent children, whether they have a formal diagnosis, are awaiting assessment or have suspected neurodevelopmental differences.

During the session, we will introduce the term neurodiversity and talk about what it means; we will cover a range of neurodevelopmental conditions including autism, ADHD and dyslexia; and we will identify some general strategies of support that can be used at home. The session includes time for questions.

The session uses a mix of presentation and discussion, and we welcome parent input. We recognise that some parents joining us will have their own neurodevelopmental needs and we provide the opportunity for you to let us know about any accessibility needs you have prior to the session.

To be eligible to book onto this session, parents/ carers must: 

  • Live in Stockport

  • Have a child who attends a Stockport school

  • Have a child who is school age (4-16)

Overview

The team of Neurodevelopmental Leads will be based at Stopford House and One Stockport Family Hubs working alongside other services to enable a more integrated approach.  

The Neurodevelopmental Team’s new offer includes:

• Exploring Neurodiversity course for parent/carers (no diagnosis required)

• Exploring Autism course for parent/carers (if your child has received a formal diagnosis)

• Neurodiversity Assemblies for schools (the team can support with delivery or provide resources)

• Neurodiversity in Education Project (12 schools so far, with learning shared with all schools)

• Riding the Rapids course for parents/ carers to support with implementing strategies to respond to distressed behaviour (No diagnosis needed)

Stockport Empowering Parents Empowering Communities (EPEC) is a popular parenting programme delivered for parents, by parents, in their own community. We offer a mixture of workshops and courses, virtual and face to face, helping parents to learn practical communication skills essential for navigating everyday challenges and nurturing confident, happy and cooperative children.
